PLEATED SKIRT SEWING WORKSHOP
Thursday, October 15 · 6:00–9:00 PM
Learn how to sew your own pleated skirt from start to finish at La Paisa Studio. ✂️
In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to create clean, structured pleats and turn them into a finished skirt you can actually wear.
This class is perfect for someone who already knows the basics of using a sewing machine and is ready to move beyond beginner projects into garment construction.
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
During the workshop, we'll cover:
- How pleats are created and constructed
- Measuring and preparing your skirt
- Marking and creating even pleats
- Pressing pleats for a clean finish
- Garment construction techniques
- Creating and attaching the waistband
- Finishing seams and raw edges
- Hemming and final finishing
You'll leave with your own finished pleated skirt and techniques you can use for future garment projects.
SKILL LEVEL
Beginner+ / Intermediate
You should already be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine and sewing a basic seam.
You do not need advanced garment-making experience.
If you've never used a sewing machine before, I recommend taking Intro to Sewing first.
WHAT'S INCLUDED
- In-person instruction from Natalia
- Use of La Paisa Studio sewing machines
- Sergers
- Cutting/work tables
- Irons and pressing equipment
- Basic shared sewing tools
- Guidance throughout the construction of your skirt
WHAT TO BRING
Bring the fabric you'd like to use for your skirt, along with:
- Coordinating thread
- Fabric scissors if you prefer your own
- Any special trims or details you'd like to incorporate
For your first pleated skirt, I recommend a woven, non-stretch fabric that holds a press well.
Avoid very stretchy, slippery, or extremely heavy fabrics for this workshop.
Important: Because the amount of fabric needed will depend on the skirt length, size, and amount of fullness/pleating, we should give students a specific yardage requirement once we finalize exactly which skirt construction you're teaching.
